Magic Carpet Q&A's

Q: Why should I clean my carpet?
A: The most obvious reason to clean carpets is so they look good & maintain a like new appearance. Clean carpets also facilitate a healthier environment. Carpet acts as a "filter", trapping soils, gases, human and pet dander. This collection and filtering process trap these contaminants within your carpet, which in turn cleans the air you breathe and allows you to live in a healthier environment. But like any other filter, your carpet needs to be cleaned on a regular basis, or it will lose its filtering ability. If these contaminants are in your home, they could be contributing to your family’s health and allergy problems.
Trivia:  Vacuuming removes 79% of soil from the carpet
Q: How often should a carpet be cleaned?
A: Some people worry that cleaning too frequently will cause carpet to age more quickly, but the opposite is true. Allowing dirt to build up within a carpet's pile will age the carpet prematurely. Carpet manufacturers recommend that consumers clean their carpets every 6 months by a professional IICRC CERTIFIED cleaning firm such as Magic Carpet. In some cases (pets, children, allergies) carpets may require more frequent cleaning.
Q: Do you have furniture?
A: Magic Carpet will move sofas, loveseats, chairs and any small tables provided that they have been cleared of all items and requested by the homeowner (a furniture moving fee applies to this service). Beds, dressers, and heavier pieces are left in place. For liability reasons, we do not move china hutches, entertainment systems, pianos, pool tables or other valuable belongings.
Q: How long does the carpet cleaning process take?
A: Cleaning time varies depending on the soil content, fiber type, grade, and age of carpet. Other factors include stains, repairs, furniture to be moved (if requested) and set up time.
Q: What about reoccurring spots & stains?
A: If a spot returned a day or so after cleaning, it may have been due to the nature of the spot. Deep stains tend to surface if they are in the backing of the carpet. We might need to use a rinsing agent or a subsurface extraction tool. Call us 770-339-9340 immediately to schedule a re service appointment.
Q: Can you fix indentations from heavy furniture?
A: No guarantee can be made on removing indentations from heavy furniture if the carpet was properly stretched when installed. In addition to the pile of the carpet being crushed, the backing of the carpet is indented and we may need to pull back the carpet and replace the crushed pad.  Heat, moisture, and hand grooming with our equipment may help, but it will take time to release back to normal, if at all. Severe cases may be permanent.
Q: How long will it take for my carpet to dry?
A: In most situations, your carpet will dry in 4 to 6 hours. Drying times may be higher due to high humidity, no ventilation and heavily soiled carpet. Magic Carpet will guarantee that all carpet be dried within 24 hours. Try to keep pets, children, and heavy traffic off the carpet during the drying process. Blocks and tabs may be removed after 24 hours.
Q: Why should I have my carpets Teflon protected?
A: Teflon Protector will not only keep your carpet looking good longer but will make it easier for you to keep it clean. Dry soil is easily vacuumed away, and spills can be spot cleaned more easily than unprotected carpet. Having this protective coating on your carpet will also help reduce the wear and abrasion caused by sand and dry soil that is tracked into your home. This should be done after every cleaning.

Today's manufactured carpet most likely has the protectant applied at the factory and will eventually wear off during vacuuming, cleaning and normal use. It will need to be reapplied to keep the carpet protected.
Q: What is the black line around the room?
A: The black line is called “filtration soil”. It is caused by your heating system, candles, smoking, cooking, and airborne odors. Your carpet acts like a filter in your home. Impurities and dirt breathe through the carpet. Changing the filter in your air conditioning system frequently will reduce the amount of “blackness” collected. You can use your vacuum attachment to clean that area effectively. Cleaning the carpet will lessen the black line but will not take care of it entirely.
